The 1920's was a time of Great Depression and Prohibition. Many were suffering looking for any way to make money. The circus provided joy to onlookers and a runaway to those with no future or life elsewhere. Traveling across the country by train, the Benzini Brothers circus takes on rail rats looking for work. They make nobodies into performers and stars. But the circus is a place full of illusion and you work until you're run into the ground.
